約10年前に落語などで使われる寄席文字に出会いました。
寄席文字は太く丸みを帯びて書くのが特徴ですが、これには理由があります。
白い紙を劇場、黒い墨をお客さんに見立て、劇場がお客さんでいっぱいになるように願いを込め、黒い部分を多く、白い部分を少なくするよう文字をなぞって太くしていきます。
また少し右上がりに文字を書くことによって、今日よりも明日が良い日になるよう願いを込めて書く縁起文字でもあります。
3年前からは寄席文字を使った作品の制作を始めました。
ここ1年は制作の幅を広げ、切り絵やイラスト、テクスチャーなどに書を入れた作品を制作しています。書を添える事で文字や作品の意味が相互的に分かりやすくなり、作品への理解がより深まると考えています。
The yose moji I write are characters that have been used in rakugo since the Edo period and are considered to be auspicious. For the past three years, I have been creating works that add calligraphy to paper cutouts, illustrations, textures, etc. I believe that by adding calligraphy, the meaning of the characters and the work becomes mutually easier to understand, and that this leads to a deeper understanding of the work.
